Drum Therapy

Since ancient times drumming has been used to promote well-being and self-expression, it has been practiced as a form of therapy to create and sustain physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Recent research is now verifying the therapeutic effects of ancient rhythm techniques. Researchers have indicated that drumming accelerates physical recuperation, boosts our resistance to infection and produces feelings of euphoria, a outlet for emotional trauma, and reintegration of self.

Drumming quashes tension, anxiety, and stress

Playing the drums can induce a loosening of physical tension, brings down blood pressure, and scales down stress levels. Studies recently discovered that drumming therapy had reduced stress in occupations with high employee turnover, such as the social care sector.

It has been observed that rhythmic energy can move the two cerebral hemispheres into sync when it is transferred to the brain. A harmonious union between the logical left hemisphere and the intuitive right hemisphere of our brain can allow the intuitive guidance to flow into our conscious awareness. By being able to access this unconscious segment of our mind we can achieve a better cognitive function and develop a sense of inner calm.

"When you are drumming and really feeling the music, the beat, it is like you are transported to a different place, where you feel so exhilarated and calm through your whole body."

- Mickey Hart

When we were still in our mother's womb we were introduced to sound and rhythm by the beating of her heart. This common experience stays with us throughout our lives. By channeling our energy into drumming we can move closer to that peaceful state.
